Global knives are well – known to be the highest quality knives in the world. Made by the Japanese man Komin Yamada in the 1985, only for a several years they turned to be a standard of quality all over the world.

First they were sold only in Japan, and after that they were introduced to European market. This happened in 1988 in Frankfurt fair and only 12 items were offered to the customer that year.

They were all made by stainless steel and Komin Yamada believes that by that time no other company had such high – quality products. At the moment, “Global brand” knives offer over 100 different products, has 35 firms which are their distributors and are sold in 35 countries all over the world.

Basically, there are four series of Global knives – G, GS, GF and GSF series and here you will learn about the basic characteristics for each of them.

G serie

The G series includes many different products – slicer, cook, carving, oriental cook, vegetable, oriental DEBA, roast slicer, bread knife – 20 cm, 22 cm, 24 cm, 27 cm, ham/salmon knife, meat chopper, carving fork, flexible knives for fillet with various sizes – 16 cm, 21 cm and 27 cm, butcher – 18 cm, meat/ fish knife- 21 cm, Chinese chopping knife – 2,2 mm and 4 mm, long slicers – 30 cm and 35 cm, and some special knives – YANAGI Sashimi- 25 cm and 30 cm, and TAKO Sashimi- 30 cm.

All knives come under a special number and there is a photo which shows you exactly how the knife looks.

GS serie

The GS series includes 19 small – sized knives. The biggest of them is only 16 cm long and it is used to make sandwiches. These items are used as slicers, cook, vegetable knives, paring, peeling, tomato, cheese, fish/ poultry.

All in all, the knives from this series are used for more delicate work when you have to be very careful if you want to achieve great results in the kitchen. Some knives are used for decoration of food so they are very small and extremely precise.

While the knives from G series can be used both from professional cooks and amateurs, the knives from GF series are specially made for professional chefs. They are almost the same like the knives from G series, but they are used for heavy duties – for instance, there is butcher and boning knives. There are 11 items in this series and they have bigger sizes, compared to G and GS series.

GSF serie

Knives from GSF series are used as supplementary to those from G and GF series. There are 11 products with small sizes, used mainly for peeling. There is a peeling straight knife and peeling curved knife. Also, there are three knives for peeling with large handle – the first is 6 cm long straight knife, the second – 8 cm long, straight knife, and the last one – 8 cm long, curved knife.

Again these knives are recommended mostly for professional chefs and you need to have special knowledge in order to distinguish which knife for what purpose is used. They come with a special number, starting with “GSF” and after that the number of the product follows.

If you go over your search engine and compare the prices, you will see that the knives from G series can be found for 60 – 80 pounds. In addition, knives from GF series worth 85 pounds to 135 pounds.

All knives from GS series come with almost the same price – 57 pounds. The most expensive knife from that series is Santoku knife which is worth 60 pounds. It can be used for three different purposes – slicing, mincing and dicing. It is all – rounded knife.
